Q&A: Having an Endescopy. Celiac Test. Does It Hurt? Risks? What Do They Do? How Long Is It For?… Etc?
ByQuestion by dominiccarter2002: Having an endescopy. Celiac Test. Does it hurt? Risks? What do they do? How long is it for?… etc?
I havent had any symptoms, however the blood test went back posotive.
On the letter, it does not say it is an endescopy just a ‘operation/biopsy’
Does it hurt? Risks? What do they do? How long is it for? Is it uncomfortable? What do they give me?
And any tips.
I am also a Type 1 diabetic.
Cheers

Cilia are the cells in your digestive tract that move things along, if your doctor thinks that there may be a issue there, the easiest thing to do is an endoscopy, it may be uncomfortable but it shouldn’t hurt, they will insert a tube into your anus, the GI doc can look and see if there is a problem, if there is they can sometimes biopsy it then, it doesn’t take very long and they will give something in order to relax you.

This is an excellent article all about “everything you ever wanted to know about Celiac Disease.
The person above me is mostly correct except the endoscopy you will be having is an Upper Gastrointestinal Scope. They will give you plenty of medications so you won’t really be aware of what is happening. When you wake up believe me you won’t remember a thing. There should be no pain maybe a little bit of discomfort like feeling bloated – they have to use air to inflate your esophagus and stomach. Please look at the above website under the section titled ENDOSCOPY, it will tell you exactly what they will do. remember you will NOT remember any of it. regardless of how old you are you will need someone to take yo AND bring you home. The medications they will give are narcotics and you can not drive for 24 hours after receiving them.
Good luck. E-mail me if you have more questions.
